Location and directions

Rancho Gallina is just south of the city of Santa Fe, along the Turquoise Trail Scenic Byway. This beautiful and ancient mining and trading route Cycling Bonanza Creek Rd.stretches from Santa Fe, over the Ortiz mountains and past the historic mining towns of Cerrillos, Madrid, and Golden, to Las Tijeras just west of Albuquerque.

We are on Bonanza Creek Road in the Lone Butte area, home to lots of horses and two movie ranches that have provided the classic Southwestern scenery to scores of films.  It’s the heart of the Santa Fe/Albuquerque movie corridor affectionately known as “Tamalewood.”

Our Google map can be found by clicking here. [Important note: if Google or your GPS directions send you down Lizard Lane at the end don’t do it!  Our driveway is just before Lizard Lane if you’re coming from route 14 (the Turquoise Trail) or just past Lizard Lane if you’re coming from the La Cienega exit off I-25.]

Directions to Rancho Gallina

31 Bonanza Creek Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87508

Fastest route from Santa Fe:  Take I-25 S to highway 14 South toward Madrid.  Then go about 9 miles south and look for CR 45, Bonanza Creek Rd., on your right (you’ll see a sign for the horse hospital). Take a right there and we are the second ranch on the right, about 1/4 mile down.

Scenic route from Albuquerque or ABQ airport:  (much nicer and not much longer) Take I-25N to I-40E to Highway 14 N at Las Tijeras. This is the beginning of the scenic Turquoise Trail, which you will follow up past the Sandia and San Pablo and over the Ortiz mountains, through the artsy town of Madrid. Soon after the 38 mile marker you’ll see a sign for CR 45, Bonanza Creek Rd on the left (just past the gas station and Lone Butte general store). Turn left there and we are the second ranch on the right, about 1/4 mile down.

Fastest route from Albuquerque or ABQ airport:  Take I-25 N to the Waldo Canyon Rd. exit, then go right off the ramp and left onto the frontage rd and in about 3.5 miles turn right onto Bonanza Creek Rd. You’ll curve around and go about 6.5 miles and after the horse hospital you’ll come to a dip in the road and we’ll be on the left, just after Lizard Lane

From Santa Fe municipal airport:  Exit the airport and follow the road until it ends at Airport Rd. Turn right there and take your first right onto highway 599, which you’ll follow until it pretty much ends at hwy 14, the Turquoise Trail. Turn right onto 14 and go about 7 miles south and look for CR 45, Bonanza Creek Rd., on your right (you’ll see a sign for the horse hospital). Take a right there and we are the second ranch on the right, about 1/4 mile down.
